PELVIC PAIN

Written by: Motric Recovery

Pelvic pain is localized in the lower abdomen and pelvis and can manifest itself as a symptom of diseases of the reproductive, urinary or digestive systems as well as a result of damage to the ligaments of the pelvis. It can be located only at the pelvic level or it can also irradiate at the level of the lower back, at the level of the buttocks and thighs and also it can have a prolonged duration or it can occur only at certain times or positions.

Sudden and intense/severe pelvic pain could be a medical emergency, in which case a doctor should be consulted. Also, pelvic pain that disrupts everyday life or worsens over time requires a specialist consultation.

Chronic pelvic pain can be the consequence of muscle or ligamentous disorders in the structures of the lower pelvis and can occasionally be caused by irritation of the nerves in the pelvis or by problems of the pelvis bone.

The treatment of pelvic pain varies depending on the cause that produced it, the intensity as well as the frequency with which it occurs and may include pain relievers, myorelaxants or even antibiotics, if necessary, reaching surgery or other physiotherapy procedures with an antialgic and myorelaxant role such as electrotherapy, TECAR therapy, cryotherapy/thermotherapy.

Physical therapy, through stretching exercises and light active exercises, contributes to the relief of pain as well as to the increase of the functionality of the pelvic area.
